The world is a confusing place, and I don't always know exactly where I fit into it. Ever feel that way? Then this song is for you.

Lyrics

Don’t try to tell me that you’ve figured it out on your own.
That you’ve become your own master sitting on your own throne.
It doesn’t work that way… I’ve tried.

You see the more we learn the less we know
We’re propped up on the shoulders of the giants who went before
And Im getting dizzy from the ride

Cause the closer that I look, the more there is to see
So many things that are confusing me

When we decide who lives and who dies so that we can be free
Of inconvenient responsibility
it's like plucking branches from our family tree.

Already 55 million since back in ‘73
as though we wade through a crimson sea
Full of lives who never got to be.
To see the beauty of a sunrise, or purple mountains majesty,
Cause we hesitate to use words like “sanctity.”

We forget about Black and White
while we’re living in this Technicolor world.
But look close and you might see a forest in spite of those trees.
What if there really is a right and a wrong way to go,
laid out for us to choose as we please?
Will someone help me?
Please God, help me see!

I used to hear about acid rain, and a hole in the sky,
And a coming ice age… was that just a lie?
I don’t hear it no more, and I’m not sure why.
Now they’re turning up the heat on a tale of impending doom.
Toe the line or you won’t be allowed in the room,
With the people who “matter,” who say you deny.

But when a prophet makes a profit
from the panic brought on by their prophecy,
are their motives pure, or more fiduciary?

We forget about Black and White
while we’re living in this Technicolor world.
But look close and you might see a forest in spite of those trees.
What if there really is a right and a wrong way to go,
laid out for us to choose as we please?
Will someone help me?
Please God, help me see!

There’s all this “he said and she said,”
or, “she said and he said,”
or “alphabet stew said,”
or “I don’t know who said.”
But what’s it got to do with who’s zoomin’ who, anyway?

I’m so thankful I don’t have to figure it out on my own,
many things don’t make sense, but I know I’m not alone,
The answers lie on a loftier throne.

But for now I’ll just keep looking,
Cause there’s so much more to see,
and I’ll pray that I understand it, eventually.

We forget about Black and White
while we’re living in this Technicolor world.
But look close and you might see a forest in spite of those trees.
What if there really is a right and a wrong way to go,
laid out for us to choose as we please?
Will someone help me?
Please God, help me see!

It makes no sense to me,
Please God help me see,
Oh God, help me see

(I guess I just wasn’t made for these times…)
